Unbeaten cornish versus joshua

GARY CORNISH has been landed a title megafight after being handed a shot at heavyweight star Anthony Joshua.

The Highlander – who is unbeaten in 21 bouts – will take on the Olympic gold medallist for the Commonwealth belt at London’s O2 Arena on September 12.

Cornish has shot up the rankings but is not set to face his toughest test yet – with undefeated Joshua rated as one of the hottest properties in the heavyweight division.

The 25-year-old has clobbered his way through his opening 13 fights since turning pro following glory at the London Games in 2012.
He’s knocked out every opponent he’s faced and has been tipped to be a future world title contender.

The 6ft7in Scot is an inch taller than his rival – with the pair clocking in at more than 17st on the scales.

Cornish is bidding to become the first Scottish heavyweight star since Dundee’s Ken Shaw fought in the 1940s.
Gilmour said: “Gary is a top prospect. He’s Scotland’s best heavyweight hopeful for more than 50 years.

“He only had nine fights as an amateur but he has learned very quickly in the pro ranks. He’s ready to go up another level and this is his big chance.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity and an exciting fight for everyone.”
